Re: [groovy-user] In Ubuntu 9.10, Groovy-Eclipse 2 plugin installs but does nothing

Andrew Eisenberg
Hi,

Two possibilities:

http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GRECLIPSE-498

or

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=297329

Are you installing a shared eclipse installation and is the install
directory read-only?  If so, then it is likely the later problem else
it is the first problem.

If it is the first problem, then I'd recommend downloading directly
from eclipse.org.

ps- Please direct future questions about the plugin to the plugin
user's mailing list (cc-ed).

Re: [groovy-user] In Ubuntu 9.10, Groovy-Eclipse 2 plugin installs but does nothing

Andrew Eisenberg
Here is  response from a colleague whom I told about this problem:

------------

Hi Andrew,

I tried installing the Groovy Eclipse feature from
http://dist.codehaus.org/groovy/distributions/greclipse/snapshot/e3.5/
into a shared STS install (i.e. the springsource/sts-2.3.0.RELEASE/
was not writeable) on Ubuntu 9.10. What happened for me is that
everything ended up in
~/.eclipse/com.springsource.sts_2.3.0.RELEASE_496601317/ as expected
but after a restart all the newly installed Groovy features were not
loaded (although they show up in About > Installation Details) due to
this bug:

287246: [shared] Duplication of roots after doing an upgrade
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=287246

Not sure if that's the bug your users are reporting. Let me know if
you have other steps or symptoms and I can try to reproduce it on my
system. A non-shared install worked without problems.

------------

So, please keep an eye on that bug report if you want to use a shared install.
