eclipse plug-in breaks helios

bill turner
I posted this a few weeks ago and was left with installing eclipse into a new directory, then installing the plug-in. Today, I downloaded Helios JEE Win 32. I then installed the plug-in. Upon restarting, my java code editor windows all displayed the exception below. On top of that, there was no option for creating java nor groovy classes, nor java and groovy projects (let alone all the other things, such as packages, interfaces, and so forth). My platform shows that the eclipse plug-in is installed, including the JDT patch. I saw no errors while installing, nor does the log show any recognizable errors, unless that exception about saveable being an issue (and, I have no idea what is causing that).

Resolving this has become more important to me for my client is considering using groovy (and grails) on an upcoming project. Hooray! The client standard is eclipse. Since I have always used Intellij in the past for groovy development, I have no experience here upon which I can build.

Below is the exception, and below that is the log file since downloading and installing Helios.

Re: eclipse plug-in breaks helios

Andrew Eisenberg
I'll try this now.

I'll try to reproduce this locally, and let you know.  This probably
deserves its own jira.  It looks like there was a problem starting the
JDT tooling, but I don't know why that would be the case.  Did you
install any other 3rd party plugins?

Re: eclipse plug-in breaks helios

In reply to this post by bill turner
This is pretty lame Groovy people, I got absolutely no satisfactory response on my issue and ended up having to reinstall eclipse and all my plugins - WITHOUT Groovy obviously.

I realize this is open source software and all - but c'mon, if this is really such a great platform for development I'd think you'd want people to be able to work with it in Eclipse which remains a primary dev environment for most of us.

On Dec 6, 2010, at 11:29 AM, bill turner wrote:

I'll try to reproduce this locally, and let you know.  This probably
deserves its own jira.  It looks like there was a problem starting the
JDT tooling, but I don't know why that would be the case.  Did you
install any other 3rd party plugins?

Re: eclipse plug-in breaks helios

I was not able to reproduce locally.  Could you answer a few questions:

1. Exactly what features did you install? (eg- Groovy-Eclipse Feature
only, Groovy-Eclipse Sources Feature, etc...)
2. Can you try running Eclipse with a new workspace?  Do you have the
same problem?
3. Can you attach your eclipse/configuration/config.ini file to the bug
4. Also, attach
eclipse/configuration/org.eclipse.equinox.simpleconfigurator/bundles.info
file
5. Do you have any *.log files in your configuration folder?

Best to move this discussion over to the jira issue.

Plastichairdoo, where is all of this hostility coming from?  I looked back at your previous note, which was just as hostile or more, and saw that Andrew had sent you a detailed response.  Did you try any of his suggestions?  Did you provide him with any feedback after your attempts?  For all you know, the corruption/conflict could be caused by another plug-in you're loading.

Shortly after your original post about a similar issue, Andrew
responded with some tips and questions to try and help you get working
and help us understand the issue so we can fix it.  Did you not
receive that email? (I've included it below) - or did you receive it
and it was unhelpful?  We didn't hear back from you and it was tricky
to proceed any further with the issue, since we are having trouble
recreating the problem.

cheers,
Andy

For what it's worth (this being an old thread) -

Cheers,
